This video illustrates many key ideas in the craft of piano playing. What stuck out most clearly to me was the grasping motion and the independence of his fingers. His hand arch is also very pronounced in those final chords, which allows him to vary the voicing and color. In the chordal sections he seems to be using both arm-weight motions and cobra - strikes. What are your thoughts? |

It's actually not arm weight, it's arm movement which is something different. He moves his arms a lot to keep the sound free with wonderful results, but still very clearly the activity of his hands is the crucial factor in producing that wonderful tone.
